Laser247 Exchange: Liability, Commission and Hedging Explained
The Laser247 exchange is a market where users bet against each other instead of against a bookmaker. You can back an outcome or lay it (bet against it). Your bet is only live once another user takes the other side, and the exchange earns a commission on winnings instead of building a margin into the odds. Below we explain liability, matched and unmatched bets, commission and hedging with rupee examples. These are the four topics that make up most exchange questions in our support chats.
How the Laser247 exchange differs from a normal bookmaker
| Exchange | Bookmaker-style market | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the price | Users, through what they are willing to back or lay | The market maker |
| Can you bet against a team? | Yes, by laying | Usually only back |
| Acceptance | Only when matched by another user | Instant, unless suspended |
| How the platform earns | Commission on net winnings per market (where charged) | Margin built into the odds |
| Trading out mid-match | Easy: lay what you backed or back what you laid | Limited |
On your Laser247 ID, a cricket match usually shows both: the exchange match odds at the top and a separate bookmaker market below it, then fancy and session lines.
Back, lay and liability explained
Backing works like any normal bet. Back India at 1.90 for ₹1,000: if India win, you profit ₹900; if not, you lose ₹1,000.
Laying makes you the bookmaker. Lay India at 1.92 for ₹1,000: if India do not win, you profit ₹1,000 (the backer’s stake). If India win, you pay the backer’s profit, which is your liability:
Liability = lay stake × (odds − 1) = ₹1,000 × 0.92 = ₹920.
Your balance must cover the liability, not just the stake. Laying at high odds gets expensive: a ₹1,000 lay at 8.00 carries ₹7,000 of liability. In our experience new users get caught out by this more than anything else. The bet slip shows the liability before you confirm, so read it every time.
Matched, unmatched and partly matched bets
When you place an exchange bet, one of three things happens:
- Matched: someone was already offering the other side at your price or better. The bet is live.
- Unmatched: you asked for a better price than anyone is offering. Your bet waits in the queue, and others can see it as money available at that price.
- Partly matched: only part of your stake found a counterparty. For example, ₹3,000 of your ₹5,000 is matched and ₹2,000 waits.
Unmatched bets are where people get surprised. Say you ask for 2.30 on a team trading at 2.20. The team then loses two quick wickets, the price drifts to 2.60, and your bet gets matched at 2.30 when you no longer want it. Get into the habit of checking the open bets panel and cancelling anything you don’t need, especially before a wicket-heavy phase or before you close the app.
How exchange commission works
Exchanges normally charge commission as a percentage of your net winnings on a market, not on each bet and not on losing markets. The rate and whether it applies vary by market, so check the rules section on your account rather than relying on a number from a forum.
Worked example with an illustrative 2% rate: you back and lay several times in one match odds market and finish ₹2,500 up overall. Commission is 2% of ₹2,500, so ₹50, leaving ₹2,450. If you finished ₹2,500 down, there would be no commission. Because it is charged on the net market result, trading in and out of the same market several times doesn’t multiply the charge.
Hedging on the Laser247 exchange: a worked example
Hedging (also called “greening up” or “booking profit”) means placing an opposite bet to lock in a result, whoever wins.
Step 1: before the toss you back Team A for ₹1,000 at 2.40. Potential profit ₹1,400, potential loss ₹1,000.
Step 2: Team A bowl well and their price falls to 1.80. You decide to lock in profit.
Step 3: calculate the lay stake: back stake × back odds ÷ lay odds = 1,000 × 2.40 ÷ 1.80 = ₹1,333. Lay Team A for ₹1,333 at 1.80 (liability ₹1,333 × 0.80 = ₹1,066).
| Outcome | Back bet | Lay bet | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team A win | +₹1,400 | −₹1,066 | +₹334 |
| Team A lose | −₹1,000 | +₹1,333 | +₹333 |
You now win about ₹333 whatever happens, less any commission on the market. The same calculation works in reverse to cut a loss: if Team A’s price had drifted to 3.50, laying ₹686 would limit the damage to around ₹314 either way. Many apps show a “cash out” or book-profit button that does this sum for you, but knowing the formula lets you check it.

Frequently asked questions
What is liability on the Laser247 exchange?
Liability is the amount you lose if a lay bet loses. It equals your lay stake multiplied by the odds minus one, so a ₹1,000 lay at 3.00 has ₹2,000 liability.
Why is my exchange bet unmatched?
You requested a price better than the best one currently available. The bet waits until another user takes it or you cancel it from the open bets panel.
Is commission charged on every bet?
Exchanges typically charge commission on net winnings per market, not on each bet or on losing markets. Check the rules on your account for the rate that applies.
How do I hedge a back bet?
Lay the same selection at the new, lower price. Use the formula back stake × back odds ÷ lay odds to size the lay so your profit is roughly equal whichever side wins.
Can I lose more than my stake on the exchange?
On a lay bet, your loss is the liability, which can be larger than the stake at higher odds. The bet slip shows it before you confirm.
